TWC Meets with Key Individuals Behind ADAPT’s Legacy of Empowerment

On Wednesday 5th March, TWC Chairman Dr. Rajni Rijal and TWC Honorary Advisor to the Training Program had the pleasure of meeting and catching up with two inspiring individuals—Malini Chib and Dr. Mithu Alur. Their efforts are the reason why ADAPT exists today and continues to make a profound impact.
Malini, born with cerebral palsy due to a lack of oxygen at birth, faced numerous challenges growing up, as no school would admit her. It was her mother, Dr. Mithu Alur, who took matters into her own hands and founded The Centre of Special Education, where Malini could receive the education she deserved. Malini went on to achieve remarkable academic success, attending college and university in India and later earning her master’s degree from London.
In 1972, driven by the need to support children and adults with neuro-muscular and developmental disabilities, Dr. Alur founded ADAPT (Able Disabled All People Together). What began as a school to offer education and treatment for individuals with disabilities has since grown into a comprehensive organisation. ADAPT now offers vocational training and teachers’ training programs for young adults with various disabilities, helping to empower them for a brighter future.
Each year, TWC sponsors participants to attend ADAPT’s CII courses, furthering the mission of inclusion and opportunity for individuals with disabilities. The legacy of Malini and Dr. Alur continues to inspire change and create pathways for a more inclusive society.
