The end of the TWC year was celebrated, as so often before, at the NLC under the sponsorship of Ruth Whitehouse. Sadly there had been some heavy snow falls two days previously, and this prevents several mebers from travelling up to London. Some good prizes had been donated for the Raffle and the entertainment, aafter lunch, was by provided by a young lady paying the qanun – which has its origins in the Arabic harp and, perhaps, not unlike a zither, as it is held horizontally, not vertically. The gathering ended with a number ladies joining in some traditional Arabic dances: a fitting end to a happy year.
