TWC at the 75th AGM of the Sri Lanka Women’s Association (SLWA)

On Saturday, 29th March 2025, Lady Butterworth and Dr Rajni Rijal had the pleasure of attending the 75th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sri Lanka Women’s Association (SLWA) at the High Commission of Sri Lanka.
As an affiliate of the SLWA, The Women’s Council (TWC) was proud to be part of this significant occasion.
The SLWA provides a vital platform for Sri Lankan women and their families to meet in a social atmosphere, fostering goodwill and understanding among women of all nationalities. In addition to this, the association is involved in national and international aid efforts, particularly in response to natural disasters. They also run an education program that supports young girls in Sri Lanka.
The AGM was led by SLWA President Sue Clarke, and included remarks from the Deputy High Commissioner.
Dr. Rajni Rijal had the honour of presenting a report on behalf of TWC. She provided a brief overview of TWC’s work in disability and inclusion, its efforts to promote friendship, and the range of training courses offered. Dr. Rijal also shared highlights from her recent trip to Mumbai, where she visited TWC’s partners at ADAPT. She further discussed TWC’s support for Dinithi and Nethma, two students from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, who have been funded to attend the CII Master Trainers Course.
Lady Butterworth also addressed the gathering, highlighting TWC’s affiliation with SLWA, CII, and ADAPT, as well as TWC’s ongoing support for Sri Lankan students. She shared a heartfelt account of her recent visit to Sri Lanka, which was warmly received by all.
It was a highly informative and engaging afternoon, enriched by delicious Sri Lankan snacks.
Many thanks to President Sue Clarke and the SLWA Committee for their kind invitation and we express admiration for the invaluable work they do.
