Empowering Communities: Dr. Rajni Rijal’s Visit to Dharavi Outreach Centre and Chembur Skills Development Centre

Dr. Rajni Rijal, the Chairman of TWC, visited the outreach centre in Dharavi, a slum area in Mumbai, where she met with several remarkable individuals.

One such individual was Gulab, the Outreach Coordinator, who was born in Dharavi. Despite facing resistance from her elder family members, she was given the opportunity to attend school. Gulab eventually earned a Masters degree and has since trained to provide valuable outreach services to her community. She personally visits individuals living with disabilities in the region, often walking long distances to ensure they receive the support they need.

During her visit, Dr. Rijal also met Salman, a 14-year-old recipient of the outreach service. Salman walks long distances to attend school and dreams of becoming a pilot one day. He aspires to study well and help lift his family out of poverty, showcasing his determination and hope for a better future.

Dr. Rijal also visited the ADAPT centre, which operates out of two rooms in the General Municipal Hospital. At the centre, they run a nursery. As a dentist by profession, Rajni conducted check ups for 14-40 year olds emphasising the importance of early dental care, such as toothbrushing.

Additionally, Dr. Rijal visited the Chembur Skills Development Centre, where older individuals are taught valuable skills such as pottery, printing, and other arts. During her visit, Dr. Rijal witnessed the creation of TWC/ADAPT’s logo pressed in clay as part of a creative project, blending skills development with awareness-building.
